Opportunities for Wildfire Evacuees
With a number of Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo evacuees staying in the city, Calgary Arts Development is pleased to share this list of local arts organizations offering free admission or tickets to displaced Albertans.

Alberta Museums & Historic Sites
Now until September 5, 2016, regular admission fees will be waived at provincially-owned historic sites and museums for evacuees of the Alberta wildfires. Evacuees will be required to provide photo identification or a postal code as proof of residency for family admission. In Calgary, be sure to check out Lougheed House—a grand sandstone prairie mansion in the heart of downtown.
In the hopes of offering a small bright spot during a difficult time, Fort McMurray and Area evacuees who are sheltering in Calgary can show their personal ID at the Glenbow admissions desk for complimentary admission throughout the crisis and recovery period.
ProArts brings together artists and audiences in an historic venue at the heart of Calgary’s cultural district. Each Wednesday it presents free concerts from 12:00 to 1:00pm in the Cathedral Church of the Redeemer (604 1st St. SE). Guests are welcome to bring their lunch and evacuees are encouraged to attend. In response to the devastation caused by the Fort McMurray wildfires, Quest Theatre is offering 12 fully subsidized summer drama camps to children from families whose lives have been displaced. Regular value of each donated camp is $294. Parents seeking subsidized summer camps should email a brief statement outlining their circumstances and need for support to Iam Coulter, iam@questtheatre.org, or call 403.264.8575.
TELUS Spark will be providing admission to any residents displaced by the fires in Northern Alberta, free of charge, to provide them an opportunity to spend the day with their families during this difficult time in their lives. Displaced residents can speak to someone at the main information desk on site and will be provided with free general admission in order to spend the day at the science centre. Evacuees can find information on our hours and the activities happening at the science centre online or speak to a staff member when they arrive.
