(Summer Temporary Employment Program)

Located in Calgary, Alberta, TRUCK is a not-for-profit artist-run centre dedicated to the development and public presentation of contemporary art. Since it was founded in 1983, the Society has facilitated countless exhibitions, activities and events that foster cultural development and the dissemination of contemporary art. TRUCK is currently seeking a dynamic individual to assist the organization with our community engagement activities in the role of Engagement Coordinator.

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Engagement Coordinator is a summer contract position. The Engagement Coordinator reports to the Director, and has a close working relationship with other staff. The current position is for 30 hours per week and assists TRUCK with the promotion and dissemination of all aspects of the public programs and engagement activities, and is responsible for numerous initiatives including, but not limited to: design of invites and promotional material; program promotion; support of our Summer CAMPER programming; supervision of volunteers; supervision of opening receptions; database and website maintenance; organization of artist talks, panel discussions and workshops; communication with gallery visitors, artists and the media.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS: The Engagement Coordinator must have a Bachelors Degree or equivalent in Visual Communications, Visual Arts, and/or Arts Administration, with a strong understanding of contemporary art, art history and artist-run culture. Skills required for this position include, an understanding and experience of working with electronic distribution networks; experience with Mac OSX software; and a working knowledge of FileMaker Pro, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office software. The Engagement Coordinator will exhibit excellent writing and speaking skills, research skills, and be able to work individually and as part a team.

ENGAGEMENT COORDINATOR'S DUTIES

- Organize and administer TRUCK’S Contemporary Art Soap Box Series

- Assist with the promotion of TRUCK’S Main Space Exhibitions & CAMPER Projects, etc.

- Draft Public Service announcements, and Media Releases

- Design invites and posters

- Maintain and expand our volunteer support base

- Organize gallery in readiness of exhibition openings (tidy and clean)

- Liaise with local cultural groups and stakeholders in support of our activities

- Develop, update and maintain digital filing

- Represent TRUCK in a professional and courteous manner to artists, visitors, funding bodies, sponsors etc.

This is a summer contract position, open to returning students and recent graduates, subject to the availability of funding from the Summer Temporary Employment Program. The rate of pay will be $16.00 per Hour for 30 hours per week for 12 weeks

PROGRAMMING ASSISTANT’S DUTIES

- Assist with the presentation of our public programs.

- Assist with the promotion of TRUCK’S Main Space Exhibitions & CAMPER Projects, - Install artworks.

- Work directly with artists and volunteers.

- Organize gallery in readiness of exhibition openings (tidy and clean)

- Liaise with local cultural groups and stakeholders in support of our activities

- Represent TRUCK in a professional and courteous manner to artists, visitors, funding bodies, sponsors etc.

This is a summer contract position, open only to returning students, subject to the availability of funding from Canada Summer Jobs. The rate of pay will be $14.00 per Hour for 30 hours per week for 12 weeks commencing June 1, 2011.
