The Savridi Singers are now accepting applications for the position of Artistic Director beginning the September 2011 season.
The Savridi Singers is an auditioned women's chorus that was established in 1986 to honour the memory of University of Calgary vocal professor and performer Polyna Savridi. The Savridi Singers encourage and promote the development of choral music through training and performance. Our focus is on creating and performing beautiful and inspiring music. Our group proudly highlights emerging Canadian talent and often shares the stage with fellow Calgary artists. We are seeking a talented individual to continue our success and expand on excellence that has developed for 25 years.

Accountability of Responsibilities:
The Artistic Director is accountable to the Board of the Directors of the Savridi Singers.
It is the Artistic Directors responsibility to:
· select music in advance of and during choral year;
· train choristers around vocal production, rhythm, timing and overall choral production;
· arrange for all musicians, composers, arrangers, sound personnel and all other individuals brought together to assist in performance;
· participate in the audition process of new choir members
Time Requirements:
Time requirement for this 10 month (September – June) position
· regularly scheduled weekly 2 hour rehearsals (one day/week) from September to June
· additional or extended rehearsals as necessary at the discretion of the Director and the Board
· 2 primary concerts per year: a Christmas-themed concert in December and an open-themed concert in May
· additional community performances as required (max. 4 per choral year)
· participation in the making of any recordings
· 2 annually scheduled weekend workshops which may be held outside of Calgary. In these circumstances, transportation, accommodation and meals will also be provided
Rehearsals are Thursdays from 7:00 – 9:00pm
Qualifications and Experience
· Minimum of a Masters of Music in Choral Conducting
· Demonstrated success in leading choral music
· Motivation to inspire singers toward continued creativity and growth
· Keyboard/accompaniment skills are an asset
· Connection and collaboration within the Calgary, Alberta and Canadian choral community is an asset
· Ability to work collaboratively with a professional accompanist and volunteer Board of Directors
· to be conversant with a variety of musical genres and possess outstanding pedagogy as well as vocal technique strength
