  • Auburn Bay Call to Artists

    Carma Developers Public Art Opportunity

    Artist Information Package

Please scroll down to download the attached document for full details and information on how to apply.

    Project Intent:

Opportunities for public art exist within the new Carma community of Auburn Bay in south east Calgary. The public art will provide a visually engaging and functional experience for the users of three different green spaces of this new community. The public art will enhance the surroundings of these green spaces in the community through various depictions of the vision of the community.

There are three different opportunities for these pieces. The first is a discrete sculptural piece to be placed within the Auburn Bay Resident's Association private park space on a large manmade lake. The second will be placed on a 5 kilometer jogging route and will be in the form of mile markers. There will be one original and 4 copies of this piece. The final piece to be produced a year later will be a sculptural piece to be placed in a neighborhood node. The pieces of art will need to relate to each other and also to the community vision. A visual artist will be commissioned to produce context sensitive works within the designated spaces.

Please download the attached document for full details and information on how to apply.

  • Calgary Stampede Artist in Residence Opportunity

    Goal

To create a discourse about western heritage and values for the 21st Century while inviting artists to reexamine what it means to experience Western Canada from a traditional perspective (i.e. our western heritage and the majesty of our physical environment).

    Outcomes

    • Attract new artists to the Calgary Stampede

    • to modernize this idea of western values and also to educate the new residents of our city about this concept of western values

    • perhaps attract a younger audience because of a more urban style discourse

    • allow our city to grow up respecting its heritage and allowing this heritage to inform the present and future

    • start a new discourse around "Western Art"

    Eligibility

The competition is open to all visual artists, preferably mid career or better who have not exhibited in the Calgary Stampede Western Showcase area. A Local artist is preferred as there is no budget for travel. All applicants will be juried into the residency to ensure professional standards are met and a diversity of styles or mediums is included for each year. Artists that have diverse perspectives and approaches to the creation of their art will be encouraged to apply.

Please see the attached file for the complete information package.
