What criteria would you suggest to evaluate a new, revitalized or expanding arts spaces? Specific or general. Please brainstorm.

How does the proposed cultural space project:

  • Build strong communities as an anchor?

  • Be a catalyst for other developments in communities?

  • Provide access for a diverse range of Calgarians?

  • Benefit existing artists and arts groups?

  • Increase capacity for artistic excellence?

  • Provide sustainability for artists/arts groups or the community?

 

What are other criteria you can add to this?

A collection of facilities in one area has more visibility than one palace. It should be a cloud of facilities with soft edges for supporting services and living space.

Cultural progress does not operate on free market principles. Competing art galleries, theatres, etc, in one sector of the city promotes ideas of artistic survival based on economic support, rather than talent.
