/JOB DESCRIPTION
The Assistant Director reports to the Gallery Director, and supports the gallery’s main activity: exhibitions in our three spaces. Key duties include exhibition installation and striking, promotion of gallery programming via the website social media and advertising, recruitment and coordination of volunteers, and assistance with the gallery’s fundraising initiatives. The Assistant Director supports the Gallery Director with day-to-day operations, preparing submission packages for review by the Board, providing requested assistance with grant applications and other projects, and providing information to gallery visitors. The Gallery Director and the Assistant Director share responsibility for programming Stride’s +15 Window Space.
This position provides an excellent growth opportunity for a motivated artist with a strong interest in artist-run centres, gallery operations, and contemporary art practices.

/MAIN JOB TASKS
• Assisting with the installation and striking of exhibitions
• General maintenance of exhibition spaces and equipment
• Maintenance of the gallery website and promotional activities
• Preparing submission packages for review meetings
• Coordination of volunteers for major gallery events and day-to-day support.

/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND ASSETS
• Bachelor of Fine Arts, Art History, or equivalent post-secondary visual arts education
• Basic knowledge of and interest in non-profit, artist-run centres, and Stride in particular
• Experience with the care & handling, installation & striking of artwork in diverse media
• Facility with Mac platforms, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Photoshop, and Dreamweaver
• Excellent research, communication and writing skills, and a pro-active, positive attitude
• Solid understanding of contemporary visual arts and related disciplines and concerns.

National Music Centre: Marketing and Public Relations Manager

Reporting to the Director of Organizational Development, the Marketing and Public Relations Manager is a critical role on the National Music Centre team. This position offers the rare opportunity to launch a new national cultural institution. The ideal candidate will be an exceptional marketing strategist, with superb media relations skills and sound instincts for driving brand development. Creativity, flexibility, vision, happiness in a fast and dynamic environment, and exceptional relationship skills are critical for success in this role.

Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Develop and implement overall strategic marketing plans, including media, advertising, and communications
• Foster exceptional media relations, in both traditional and new media, and develop media partnerships as appropriate
• Foster relationships with marketing partners, including large-scale tourism agencies, peer cultural institutions, and music industry partners
• Create and implement promotional, brand and community-building campaigns
• Manage the design and production of all communications collateral, as required by all NMC departments
• Manage nmc.ca and all social media channels
• Manage the Marketing Communications Coordinator role
• Manage relationships with third-party agencies related to delivering marketing/communications materials
Specific responsibilities related to the opening of the new NMC in 2015:
• Work with the fund development team to implement marketing and communications strategy for NMC capital campaign and to recognize supporters
• Develop and manage marketing communications strategy for the opening of the new NMC in 2015 (date TBC), including launch events and media liaison
• Manage the redevelopment of nmc.ca as part of NMC’s integrated technology strategy

Communications Specialist: Glenbow Museum

The Glenbow Museum is seeking an energetic professional to fill the full-time role of Communication Specialist. Reporting to the Manager, Marketing & Communications, the Communications Specialist will work closely with the Manager to develop and implement a comprehensive media relations plan as well as coordinate and execute internal and external communications including; internal staff communications, traditional media relations, public relations activities and social media plans. Qualifications/Assets

• University degree in Communications or Public Relations and/or combination of education and experience.

Music and Play: Dance Instructor/Director

As the senior instructor you are fun, inspirational and energetic and will be responsible for helping plan and shape this new programming stream and guide and mentor other dance staff as required. You will also be responsible for lesson planning, instruction and choreography in one or more genres that may include ballet, jazz, hip hop and modern for students ages 3-18. Savridi Singers: General Manager

We are students and teachers, mothers and daughters, professionals and retirees. We are busy women, balancing family, work and fun, and we enrich our lives by singing together and knowing each other.

Our mandate is to encourage and promote the development of choral music through training and performance. We love to create and perform beautiful and inspiring music. Our group proudly highlights emerging Canadian talent and often shares the stage with fellow Calgary artists.

Accountability:
The General Manager (Part-Time) (GM) reports to the Vice-President and Board of Directors, and works closely with the Artistic Director.

Responsibilities:
• Financial
o Process payables and receivables, and prepare cheques for Board signature or record deposits as appropriate;
o Reconcile bank statements on a monthly basis, and prepare year-to-date financial statements for the Board as required;
o Meet with Treasurer monthly to review bank and financial statements;
o Assist Treasurer as needed with annual budget and financial review preparation;
o Complete AGLC use of proceeds reporting;
o Ensure AGLC apprised of Board changes;
• Concert and Production Management
o Coordinate and secure concert venues;
o Prepare, distribute and reconcile event tickets;
o Facilitate night-of ticket sales and will-call, including float preparation and audience experience requirements.
• Marketing and Public Relations
o Work with the Vice President to execute annual marketing plan, including ad purchases, ad swaps, recruitment campaigns, event campaigns, public relations initiatives, and partnerships;
o Maintain website content and update photos and text as appropriate in a timely fashion;
o Appropriately represent The Savridi Singers’ brand in the community.
• Fund Development
o Coordinate annual grant applications such as:
 Alberta Foundation of the Arts
 Calgary Arts Development Authority
 Alberta Community Spirit Grant
o Coordinate details of AGLC Casino events (approximately once every 18 months), including choir member shift allocation and completion of required forms.
• General Administration
o Receive and respond to external phone and email queries;
o Maintain the registry of choir members and supply the registry list to the Board, Section Leaders and members;
o Maintain a registry of choir Alumni and audience members in order to communicate upcoming events;
o Assist Vice President and Artistic Director in preparing contracts and cheque requisitions for guest instrumentalists;
o Prepare and submit report to Alberta Registries;
o Plan and coordinate twice annual weekend rehearsal workshops, including workshop location, catering, and room requirements;
o Other duties as assigned.

Time Requirements:
• Part-time, flexible, recurring 10-month role of approximately 40 hours per month, mid-August through mid-June;
• Actual time spent may vary from month-to-month;
• Concerts are typically in December and May each year and attendance at each ticketed concert is required.

• Self-motivated, highly-organized, and able to work to a deadline;
• Possesses a sense of urgency and good old common sense;
• Ability to work from home required;

Accountability:
The Artistic Director is accountable to the Board of Directors of the Savridi Singers.

Responsibilities:
• select music in advance of and during choral year;
• train choristers around vocal production, rhythm, timing and overall choral production;
• arrange for all musicians, composers, arrangers, sound personnel and all other individuals required to assist in performance;
• arrange for all musicians and sound personnel, and coordinate appropriate locations for recording sessions;
• participate in the audition process of new choir members

Time Requirements:
• preparation for and attendance at Wednesday 7 – 9 pm rehearsals, from September through May;
• additional or extended rehearsals as necessary at the discretion of the Director and the Board;
• two primary concerts per year: a Christmas-themed concert in December and an open-themed concert in May;
• additional community performances as required (max. 4 per choral year);
• participation in the making of any recordings;
• two annual weekend workshops which may be held outside of Calgary. In these circumstances, transportation, accommodation and meals will also be provided.

Qualifications and Experience:
• demonstrated success in leading choral music;
• mature, empathetic leader who can live and foster a culture of respect;
• motivation to inspire singers toward continued creativity and growth;
• ability to collaborate with a team (choir members, professional accompanist, part-time General Manager and volunteer Board of Directors) to achieve time-sensitive goals;
• Masters of Music in Choral Conducting preferred;
• keyboard/accompaniment skills are an asset;
• connection and collaboration within the Calgary, Alberta and Canadian choral community is an asset;
• knowledge and comfort with a variety of musical genres;
• outstanding pedagogy and understanding of vocal technique.

Call for Contract Staff: Writers, Researchers, Facilitators

Calgary Arts Development requires up to four contract staff to join our team on a term-limited basis as we complete Calgary’s first integrated long-term Arts Plan (see ArtsPlan.ca for more information). If your friends would describe you as “dynamic,” and you have some combination of research, writing and facilitation skills, we’d like to meet you!

Responsibilities and contract lengths will vary based on the team that is assembled. The majority of the work will occur between January 20th and May 15th. Compensation will be commensurate with experience. Budget limitations may make this opportunity more attractive to early to mid-career applicants.

National Music Centre: Exhibition Development Project Manager

The Exhibition Development Project Manager reports to the NMC Project Manager and is responsible for managing the development and successful installation of all new exhibitions and interpretive programs for the new National Music Centre (NMC), set to open in 2015. NMC is a place that amplifies the love, the sharing and the understanding of music through the act of assembling historic music collections. These collections provide the foundation for developing, presenting and fostering public programs, performances and partnerships across the Canadian musical spectrum.

Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to
• Define project objectives and requirements in collaboration with all stakeholders.
• Establish and manage budgets and human resources requirements.
• Prepare schedules, in collaboration with managers and suppliers, ensure key dates and deadlines are respected throughout the project.
• Manage the project team, including defining and communicating roles and responsibilities to team members and stakeholders, communicating the exhibition development process to all stakeholders, and monitoring the progress of projects, managing crew and maintaining quality of production.
• Prepare contract documents for external suppliers for activities such as exhibition design, interactive and web development, fabrication, installation, etc.
• Source materials, manufacturers and suppliers
• Coordinate and supervise the work of external consultants, including quality control and on-site management.
• Arrange and oversee the delivery and installation of all goods and services in coordination with the construction and architectural teams.
• Ensure effective communication with suppliers, internal team, construction and architectural teams, partners and external parties as required.
• Manage team meetings and share outcomes and responsibilities
• Liaise with other NMC departments as necessary. Qualifications
• The successful candidate will have the appropriate qualifications, knowledge, skills and personal attributes to perform the necessary tasks and responsibilities required on a day-to-day basis, including:
• Bachelor level degree in the arts, business, project management or related discipline
• Minimum eight (8) years experience in arts and/or museum environment
• Experience with interpretive programming and exhibition design and development
• Experience with new museum projects and managing creative projects
• Familiarity with the architectural process
• Superb ability to communicate to multiple stakeholders on different levels
• Flexibility and problem-solving abilities
• Sound judgment, leadership and team building skills
• Bilingualism (English/French) an asset
• Love of music an asset
