Cultural Tourism - Advice from Atlanta

We had the privilege of spending time with Shelton Stanfill this morning discussing cultural tourism, thanks to the EPCOR CENTRE for the Performing Arts. Shelton, a well-known arts leader from the U.S., had some great insights on how Calgary can start moving forward in this area based on his experiences building and shaping Atlanta's cultural tourism strategy. We were joined by Johann Zeitsmann who currently runs the Mesa Arts Center in Arizona and was able to offer some very interesting perspective based on his current work as well as his past experience developing the arts in South Africa. read more »

Grant Deadlines at Your Finger Tips

Calgary Arts Development has just posted granting deadlines from other major arts funding programs accessible to Calgary artists and art organizations. They are listed on our events calendar. (Upcoming events are posted on our home page as well.)

We can't guarantee the info will stay current, but we'll do our best to keep it up to date. Absolutely, check with the funding bodies themselves for any details about their programs. We're happy to post other deadlines, so please let us know if you have other suggestions.

Information about Calgary Arts Development's 2009 Community Investment Programs will be available in late September. We look forward to working with the community in this exciting new program. read more »

What do UK architect Will Alsop (see one of his projects here) and marketing guru Seth Godin have in common? A lot, I think!

On Monday, Feb 27^th, Alsop spoke to a buzzing crowd of over 1100 Calgarians jammed into the EPCOR CENTRE’s Jack Singer Concert Hall. His talk was part of Alberta College of Art & Design’s Stirring Culture series.

Alsop dropped jaws in the room with images and videos of his work. Not surprising from a man who said this: 'Our work as architects currently poised to be able to give the world extraordinary objects of design is under threat by people who see the world as a dull and uncultivated place of day-to-day tedium and boredom.
