Backgrounder
Calgary Arts Development plays a leadership role in realizing the potential of arts and culture in Calgary. As the city's designated arts development authority, we are a central hub that learns about, promotes, connects, advocates for and leads strategic initiatives in the arts to animate Calgary as a vibrant cultural centre.
Prior to March 2005, Calgary didn’t have a designated authority for the development for the arts. Calgary Arts Development was formed in March 2005, as directed by the 2004 Civic Arts Policy. Calgary’s civic leadership is serious about the arts playing a central role in our city’s future – they recognize that a vibrant arts scene is essential to quality of life, and by extension, is fundamental to our city’s overall success. Values
- Acting Wisely: We strive to be aware of what we know and what we do not know and to take this awareness into account when we act. We do not let lack of data prevent us from acting wisely.
- Loving Creativity: We believe in the potential of all Calgarians to be creatively engaged in building their city, and in the potential of Calgary to be a creative force for the good of the world.
- Open Systems: None of us is as smart as all of us. We always strive for transparency and openness. We have nothing to hide and much to gain by always sharing, inviting, learning, and collaborating.
- Authenticity: We see and appreciate the truth of the people, places and projects we deal with.
- The Word “Yes”: We create the conditions for success. We strive to see the potential in people and initiatives, and to be part of moving them forward.
- Diversity: We deeply appreciate the value created by the diversity that increasingly characterizes Calgary. We recognize and celebrate the importance of the arts in the lives of all Calgarians, in all parts of the city.
Logos
Before applying the Calgary Arts Development logo, please review our logo usage guidelines:
Granting Clients:
Please begin using Calgary Arts Development's logo instead of the Calgary Region Arts Foundation logo on materials that will be distributed after October 31, 2006.If you've already used the CRAF logo on your materials, that's ok! We understand that it will take some time to make the change on all your flyers, posters, programs, handbills, websites and so on. But you should begin using the Calgary Arts Development logo on all of your new materials as soon as possible.
Funding for Calgary Arts Development's granting programs is provided by the City of Calgary, which currently allocates approximately $3 million annually in funding for the arts. If you have received funds from Calgary Arts Development, please ensure you recognize both Calgary Arts Development and the City of Calgary in all of your promotional materials. Whenever possible, logos for the City of Calgary and Calgary Arts Development should be placed side by side to recognize that funding has been provided by the City of Calgary through Calgary Arts Development.
If you have any questions, please contact us at grants@calgaryartsdevelopment.com or call the office at 264-5330.
