It’s becoming increasingly rare to leave the house without a sketchbook these days as I’ve found drawing my city to be the perfect outlet for getting me away from my desk over the lunch hour. This sketch was created sitting on the CTrain platform on Parade Day, the official kick-off to Calgary Stampede. I’d been wanting to get some practice in at sketching figures on the move for quite some time and figured the morning of Parade Day would be the best time to do it. A great time to catch folks in their Western finest and in a friendly mood.
Urban sketching to me is a great embodiment of living a creative life. It is so common to be distracted by any number of things each day. Sitting in one spot for a few moments at a time really lets me see things I wouldn’t otherwise notice or take the time to appreciate.
