A WORKSHOP WITH THE DIRECTOR of the Documentary "Hellbound?" (www.hellboundthemovie.com)
SATURDAY OCT. 20TH 9:00 AM - NOON @ ROCKY MOUNTAIN COLLEGE
$40 - to register - val@fireexit.ca
"From Metaphor to Movie: Rediscovering the Power of Visual Storytelling"
For far too long, evangelical Christians have allowed their literal view of Scripture to bleed into a literalistic approach to art. As a result, their work is often criticized for its lack of sophistication, depth and emotive power. In this seminar, filmmaker Kevin Miller explains why powerful visual metaphors lie at the heart of all great storytelling and how Christian artists can rediscover this world-changing device.
KEVIN MILLER is an award-winning screenwriter who has applied his craft to documentaries, feature films and short film projects. Recent credits include spOILed, Sex+Money, With God On Our Side, Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed and his directorial debut Hellbound?. Kevin's work has taken him to over a dozen countries across five continents and has involved everything from urban exploring under the streets of Moscow to interviewing war-criminals-at-large in the dusty, fly-infested markets of Sierra Leone. In addition to making films, Kevin teaches screenwriting at a number of film schools and conferences across North America and around the world. Kevin lives in Abbotsford, BC with his wife and four children.

This is an experimental workshop where we will fuse the purity and boldness of the body’s expression with modern technology and the traditional artistic medium of paint to bring our thoughts to life.
Making it happen: exploring performance and Artivism with Lindsay Ruth Hunt
What is performance art? How might it be used to investigate social issues that are relevant to us? Lindsay Ruth Hunt will lead the group through an introduction of the art form and then guide the group through a process of visioning their own pieces of “performance”. By expanding our idea of what performance is, acknowledging that it is not limited to theatre or drama, we can begin to imagine how it might be used in unconventional spaces to encourage thought, discussion and action on social issues that are important to you and your community.
