Educational Opportunity: Friday Night Fight! A Drop-In Stage Combat Class

Come one, come all to this bi-weekly brawl.
Wanna be an action hero!
Friday Night Fight is a class where stage and film fights are broken down and taught to you. You will learn how fights are created and learn to practice the moves necessary to make you look like a hero or villian.  

Running every other Friday from Sept. 14th - December 7th from 6:00-8:00 pm at Rocky Mountain College (#4039 Brentwood Rd. NW).
Learn the skill and craft of stage combat from two of Canada's best Certified Fight Directors.
$25 per session.

Laryssa is an Instructor Level with Fight Directors of Canada, the premier organization dedicated to the teaching and exploration of safe and effective staged combat, as well as their current President. She spent three years in apprenticeships with some of Canada's leading Fight Directors. Laryssa works in theatre, film and television as actor, fight director, stent performer and aerial circus artist.  She has taught stage combat with the U of C, MRU and Keyano College. Her work has been seen with Calgary Opera, Alberta Ballet, Alberta Theatre Projects, Vertigo Mystery Theatre, Sage, The Stratford Festival and National Arts Centre.

Adrian is an award-winning fight director and works across Canada as a performer, teacher, stunt coordinator and flying director. He has worked with Globe Theatre, Veritgo Mystery Theatre, Calgary Opera, Sage Theatre, Fire Fly Theatre and Alberta Ballet as well as working extensively on films and television including Joe Media, APTN/Showcase and Cedar Boy Productions.

LEVEL 1 - The Voice Over Adventure (Introduction)...

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to venture behind the microphone? Now's your chance to embark on a exciting voyage to explore Voice Over and all it's possibilities. You'll work with professional Voice Over Artists. You'll work with actual scripts. You'll re-create a real commercial all the while making new friends and stretching your comfort zone in a safe and fun environment. Your Adventure will climax with a studio recording session of which you'll receive a copy.

Cost: $350.00+gst

Class consists of approximately 16 hours of training (breaks included) either over a weekend or 4 – 4 hour weekly classes. The training will be split between a classroom utilizing a microphone /Public Address system (no record) and a studio (record).
Class concludes with a brief description including a Q & A regarding the Voice Over business and the marketplace Locally, Nationally, and Internationally.

Course Description:
Learn the basics of this versatile and challenging medium. This eight week class will introduce you to the beautiful world of watercolor painting. Through demonstrations and hands-on experimentation you will learn techniques and tricks that will help you to control the medium and avoid relying on unpredictable “happy accidents”.

Requirements:
No experience necessary! Educational resources will be provided, Students will receive a list of materials to purchase on their first class.

Instructor Bio:
Janice Blaine is a professional commercial artist working out of Calgary. Throughout her career, she has worked on a wide variety of projects ranging from pre-production animation to design and illustration of children’s books. Her illustrations have appeared on the covers of numerous magazines and books. Her cover illustrations for Neo-opsis issue #20 was recently nominated for an Aurora Award. She currently works as the Production Manager at EDGE Science Fiction and Fantasy Publishing as well as the commercial artist for Financial Guides. She is the illustrator and designer for the Financial Foundations Children’s Book Series. Her most recent project is the EDGE Books’ upcoming short fiction anothology URBAN GREEN MAN, co-edited with author Adria Laycraft. Her personal practice is fuelled by a passion for storytelling and a love of nature. Her paintings explore the universal language of myth and folklore. Untitled Art Society: Pinhole Photography Weekend Workshop

Course Description:
Pinhole photography is the unique process of creating your own functional camera from household items. Learn how to make and use your very own lenseless pinhole camera!

Each student will be provided Information on exposure times and how to take successful pinhole photographs. During the course we will be spending time outdoors taking exposures and then time in the darkroom developing negatives and making positive contact prints.

Requirements:
No experience necessary! Participants should bring 2 objects/containers to be made into pinhole cameras.

In order to make the cost of materials and course fees as affordable as possible, UAS will provide all materials (except for your objects - that's for your imagination!) Participants are required to pay a 20.00 material fee towards the purchasing of group supplies.

Come and raid the UAS Art Supply Exchange Room if you need and object or container!

Instructor Bio:
Michelle Rainey is an ACAD grad and did some pinhole work while a student, but then re discovered pinhole photography about 4 years ago when she and her husband set up their home darkroom, and became obsessed.

Since then she has really immersed herself in the process and has created more than a thousand pinhole negatives and more than 20 home made cameras. Last July Michelle showed a series of her pinhole self portraits and cameras at the Untitled Satellite Gallery. Michelle also participated in the Exposure 2010 photography festival with her photographs and workshop at Arts on Atlantic Gallery. Michelle and her husband Tekoa Predika have done workshops from their home darkroom but this will be Michelle's first workshop at the Untitled Art Society. Michelle and Tekoa's photography business, Rainika, have started doing mobile pinhole projects and workshops with their new "darkroomTent". There will always be more pinholes to do, the possibilities with pinhole photography are uniquely endless.

Launched in the 2008 – 2009 season, ENCORE is the alumni division of the Youth Singers of Calgary. This 3rd season promises to be extremely exciting with the addition of three new choral directors to the ENCORE staff. The four artistic staff will be:

David Holoboff – LEAD Director (Composer, Arranger, Accompanist & Former YSC Band Director)
Malcolm Edwards – Sessional Director (Composer, Arranger, Director of ACT3 for 21 years)
Dave Morton – Sessional Director (Composer, Arranger, Alumni Member & Director of ONCUE)
Kathryn Parrotta – Sessional Director (Composer, Arranger, ONCUE Member & Senior HI Director)

These four amazing instructors will each bring their own musical passions to ENCORE in what should prove to be a very new and exciting list of repertoire. Elements of choreography and staging will be included in the overall artistic experience as well as a variety of social events throughout the year. Additionally, anyone age 25 and up who has previous choral experience, but has not been a member of Youth Singers, can audition to become a non-alumni member of ENCORE.

Rehearsals run on Tuesdays 7:00 pm – 9:30 pm
