Arts for Social Change in Canada

In 2013, the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council provided a $2.5 million partnership grant to support research in the area of Arts for Social Change in Canada (ASC). Led by senior dance artist Judith Marcuse through the International Centre of Art for Social Change (ICASC) and Simon Fraser University, the national team of researchers, post-doctoral fellows, artist consultants and research assistants have been conducting field studies in Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Lethbridge and Calgary, as well as nationally focused work on partnerships, program evaluation, and teaching/learning.

The ASC team will be holding its annual meetings in Calgary this year, and we would like to invite you to attend a Community Dialogue on the topic of Arts for Social Change in Canada. Some of the national research team members will give brief presentations followed by questions and conversations.

The aim of the gathering is to provide an opportunity for Calgary artists and arts organizations to initiate conversation, spark collaboration, and connect with others who are working in the realm of arts for social change in Calgary.
