Commitment to Equity Virtual Town Hall

The commitment to equity virtual town hall that was previously scheduled on September 28, 2021, has been postponed. We will post information about the new date once it has been confirmed.

Calgary Arts Development is committed to bettering our systems regarding equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility (EDIA). As a public agency stewarding public dollars for the benefit of ALL Calgarians, we aspire to foster a resilient and sustainable arts sector that is safe and welcoming for all, regardless of race, ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnic origin, language, citizenship, creed, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, marital status, physical, or mental abilities.

Please join us for a virtual town hall focused on our commitment to racial equity.

In May of 2020 community organizers and social justice advocates Cesar Cala and JD Derbyshire organized an online chat and chew—an informal space for Calgary artists to get together and explore: “What is this moment asking of us?”

Since then, the chat and chews, which were open invitations that anyone could join, have led to the formation of the Cultural Instigators, a group of artist-activists using their practices to effect change that will lead to greater racial equity in our city. Come learn about how it started and how, by sharing a common concern, this group has gathered funding to propel an artist-activist project called Bringing Power to Truth.

The September 28, 2021, virtual town hall takes place through Zoom from 2:00 to 4:00pm MT and will be interpreted in American Sign Language (ASL) with a live transcription available. Register at zoom.us to take part.

Registering for this town hall confirms that you have read and agree to our group agreements as amended for this meeting. If you have questions, please send them to edia@calgaryartsdevelopment.com.
