With over 100 talented Calgary musicians submitting their original songs, the winner of the RISE UP Calgary Song Contest is Emily Triggs with her song, Light You Up!

Embodying the resilience and spirit of the city of Calgary, this December saw a call go out to musicians for a song that embodied the collaborative nature, strength, and resilience of Calgarians!

On behalf of RISE UP Calgary, the National Music Centre, CKUA, Alberta Music, and Calgary Arts Development, thank you for your submissions! The finalists were rounded out by Lisette Xavier, Bebe BuckSkin, and Tre Digga featuring Miss Benzo, and the winner was chosen after all four performed their songs in front of a socially distanced audience during a Hotels Live show last week.

Light You Up is about not giving up, and that’s what RISE UP is all about,” says Emily Triggs in a statement.

Triggs takes home the $5,000 grand prize and the song will be used for RISE UP Calgary initiatives throughout 2021.
