Apply Now: The Acoustic Guitar Project

National Music Centre & Write On!

Application Deadline: January 2, 2026

In celebration of International Women’s Month, the National Music Centre, in partnership with Write On! is proud to present a special edition of The Acoustic Guitar Project dedicated to uplifting female and gender-diverse songwriters.

Five Alberta-based artists will be selected to participate in this unique collaborative songwriting initiative. Each artist will contribute to the ongoing legacy of a single acoustic guitar that has held countless songs before it.

Participants will spend one week with the instrument to write an original piece. Once all five songs are completed, artists will record their work at the National Music Centre’s world-class studios and later share them live on stage at the historic King Eddy in a showcase event on Friday, March 6, 2026.

The selected five artists will also receive:

  • A 30-minute one-on-one session with Write On! for focused and personalized feedback to strengthen their song.
  • A consultation with the National Music Centre on programming opportunities and artist development.
  • Professional live photos, used to promote the project, the showcase, and the artists.

Following the showcase on March 6, the acoustic guitar used in the project and signed by each of the five artists will be displayed inside the National Music Centre for one full year.

Whether you’re an emerging songwriter or an established performer seeking new inspiration, this is an opportunity to create boldly, connect deeply, and leave your mark on an instrument shaped by the stories of many.

What You’ll Need to Apply
