Art + Civic Engagement with Calgary’s Chinese Community

Triple A Club

Time Commitment: 1 – 5 hours/month

Triple A Club (Asian Artists and Alias Club), a Calgary-based collective of Chinese immigrant artists and community-supported allies, is seeking passionate volunteers to support our upcoming art + civic engagement project. This initiative is part of Creating Our Calgary, an arts activism program supported by Calgary Arts Development.

About Creating Our Calgary

Creating Our Calgary is a city-wide, non-partisan program that harnesses the power of art for social change. It is designed to deliver innovative and creative campaigns that mobilize Calgarians for the October 2025 civic election and beyond, encouraging civic awareness, participation, and dialogue.

About Our Project

Triple A Club’s project centres around connecting Chinese-speaking Calgarians with civic life through art. Our multi-stage campaign includes:

  • A bilingual community survey to explore barriers and opportunities for civic engagement
  • Prototype activities such as gallery trips, art meetups, and casual events to gather feedback
  • A public ceramic workshop (October 2025)where participants will explore civic identity, community connection, and belonging through clay
  • A Chinese Civic Toolkit — a practical bilingual guide to help newcomers navigate civic resources in Calgary

Volunteers will have opportunities to get involved at different stages based on their interests and availability.

Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities

  • Participate in a short volunteer orientation
  • Help with community outreach and event promotion
  • Assist with sharing our online survey and collecting responses
  • Provide hands-on support during the ceramic workshop (set-up, logistics, photos, participant support)

Volunteer Benefits

  • Free participation in the ceramic workshop
  • Meals/snacks provided during workshop and prototype activities
  • Opportunities to meet artists, community members, and change-makers
  • Gain experience in community arts, public engagement, and cultural organizing
  • Official Volunteer Confirmation Letter upon request
