Working with the arts program coordinator and reporting to the team leader, culture and event services, the arts programmer is responsible for the successful planning and delivery of registered City of Airdrie Visual and Performing Arts Programs at the Bert Church Live Theatre and Airdrie Inspire Multi-Use Facility, including but not limited to:

  • Visual arts classes: Art fundamentals, painting, drawing, printmaking and mixed media
  • Performing Arts classes: Performing arts fundamentals, acting, drama techniques and dancing

The arts programmer will manage the current performing and visual arts classes and summer camp programs as well as develop new program opportunities.

  • Plans, organizes and evaluates the delivery of all visual and performing arts classes
  • Research information to assist in the development of innovative arts and culture programs and events, including trend and demographic analysis
  • Manage the performing and visual arts programs including registration, scheduling, payments and supplies
  • Collect information on comparable programs to align with industry best practices and develop registration fees according to the City’s user fees and charges policy
  • Provide oversight of the performing and visual arts program budget to control expenses and ensure revenue generated through performing and visual arts programming meets budget targets
  • Prepares for Corporate Communications content for publication for a variety of brochures, calendars, letters, posters, news releases, flyers and related communication regarding programs and events
  • Assist in the scheduling, training, onboarding, supervision and coaching of the City of Airdrie performing and visual arts program staff
  • Provide high quality customer service and a safe environment for performing and visual arts programming to be delivered
  • Assist instructors with the delivery of classes and camps as required

You Bring:

  • Post-secondary education in a related field an asset
  • Intermediate First Aid – Level C CPR and AED certificate required
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a customer service role
  • Experience with customer service and programming visual or performing arts
  • Proven effective leadership skills with the ability to coach and mentor
  • Experience in Microsoft Suite and other enterprise software systems
  • Experience using course registration software
  • Proven ability to build and foster relationships with all client groups
  • Knowledge of and passion for the performing arts specifically theatre is preferred
  • Customer service excellence
  • Entrepreneurial thinking and change management foresight
  • Self-motivated and good in high pressure situations
  • Ability to quickly align with shifting priorities, work assignments and timelines
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent planning, organization and critical thinking skills

Additional Information: This full time position (40 hours per week) includes a medical and dental benefits package.

This position requires flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as required.
