Communications Manager
artsPlace is Canmore’s community arts centre, offering accessible arts-based programs, classes, workshops, and public performances for all age groups and across multiple disciplines: visual arts, ceramics, textiles, fabrication, digital arts, film, music and drama.
artsPlace features a number of teaching, exhibit and performance spaces including classrooms for ceramics, fabrication and visual arts, a black box performance/film theatre, and a public gallery space, as well as digital presentation capacity.
Reporting directly to the executive director, and working very closely with all permanent staff, the communications manager supports the artsPlace mandate of engaging all residents of the Bow Valley in the arts and creativity by developing, coordinating and maintaining marketing and public relations initiatives, and managing and maintaining a strong brand identity and voice.
This is a full-time one-year maternity leave replacement position with compensation commensurate with experience including a full benefits package.

Responsibilities
- In conjunction with the executive director, developing and implementing artsPlace operational communications plans.
- Imagining and writing communications materials across multiple digital and traditional platforms.
- Managing and maintaining a strong brand identity through meaningful storytelling, creative content, and an authentic brand voice.
- Identifying and building relationships with community stakeholder groups.
- Management and development of the artsPlace website.
- Day to day management of all social media platforms.
- Managing the promotion of all artsPlace activities, including but not limited to media and public relations, advertising, and promotion through traditional and digital channels.
- In conjunction with all artsPlace staff, coordinating the creation and distribution of seasonal program guides and other promotional materials.
- In conjunction with the fund development manager and on an as-needed basis, assisting with the creation of various sponsorship and fundraising proposals and case for support materials.
- In conjunction with the fund development manager and executive director, creation and coordination of the artsPlace annual report.
- In conjunction with other artsPlace staff, development and dissemination of crisis/emergency communications across multiple platforms.
- Developing and managing systematic feedback mechanisms on existing artsPlace programming as well as future community programming needs.
- Ongoing analysis and evaluation of the effectiveness of all communications initiatives.
- Other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will possess:
- Proven experience managing and/or working in marketing and communications.
- A post secondary education in a related field.
- A passion for the arts and creativity and an appreciation of multiple art forms.
- An understanding and appreciation of mountain culture.
- A familiarity with, and understanding of, the diverse communities and demographic groups that make up Canmore and the Bow Valley.
- An ability to think creatively and to formulate and carry out imaginative approaches to planning and problem solving.
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment and the ability to work both independently with limited supervision and as an important member of a small, committed team.
- An outgoing personality, creative flair, and comfort meeting and engaging with new people.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills.
- Superior attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure and complete multiple tasks in an efficient and timely manner.
- Experience using multiple contemporary communications and analytical tools including: the Microsoft Office Suite, website content management systems (Prismic), databases and registration systems, MailChimp email marketing, Google Analytics, and social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube etc.), and a general comfort level exploring new/emerging digital and social media platforms and technologies.
- Experience working for a charitable or not-for-profit organization is a bonus.
- Graphic design and layout skills, as well as familiarity with editing software (Photoshop, Lightroom, InDesign) are a bonus.
- Film and video production and editing skills are a bonus.
