Audition Notice, Stage Dogs for Toto

ATP is holding auditions in Calgary on August 13, 2025 for small local dogs to participate in our upcoming production of The Wizard of Oz.
We have an opportunity open for one or two dogs maximum 15 lbs. to join the cast of The Wizard of Oz in the role of Toto. Owners will be asked to be onsite with the dog to act as handler when the dog is not onstage. This is a paid opportunity; dog and owner will be contracted under a Letter of Agreement.
We are looking for dogs who are able to do the following:
- Stay calm/subdued in a room with people.
- Be responsive to basic commands (sit/stay).
- Able to stay focused in a distracting environment, including singing, dancing, stage business and audiences.
- Are comfortable being held by a performer for periods of time.
- Are available for the entire rehearsal and performance period on a part-time basis.
- While it is preferable that the dog be hypo-allergenic, this is not a requirement.
Those selected for an audition will be asked to demonstrate the personality and behaviour of
the dog through a series of commands and confirm that they are available for the duration of
the process.
The time commitment extends on a part-time basis from Oct 31, 2025 – January 4, 2026.
Rehearsals begin October 31, through until November 28, 2025.
Dogs and their owners may be required during the day and on weekends. The production runs November 25, 2025 – January 4, 2026 with both evening and matinee performances.
Interested dog owners should please email a photo and a short description of the dog to auditions@atplive.com no later than 10pm on August 4, 2025.
