Lougheed House

Lougheed House was built in 1891 and is a Provincial and National Historic Site. Located in
Calgary’s greater downtown amid acres of heritage gardens and green space, Lougheed House
is an accredited museum, significant Calgary landmark, and vibrant community gathering space.
It features temporary and permanent exhibits, hosts events, tours, and learning opportunities for
visitors of all ages as well as a restaurant, gift shop, and private event space.
Lougheed House is operated by the Lougheed House Conservation Society, a group of volunteers
dedicated to preserve and operate Lougheed House as a public resource to engage community
in meaningful ways, and to share and honour diverse stories.
The site and gardens are owned by the Government of Alberta and City of Calgary, respectively,
and the Society has a formal partnership with Otipemisiwak Métis Government Calgary Nose Hill
and Elbow districts, recognizing the Métis heritage of the house.
The Opportunity
The Society is seeking enthusiastic and action-oriented individuals from the Calgary area to join
our board of directors. Preference will be given to candidates who have a demonstrated interest
in local history/museums, strong connections in the Calgary community, and bring skills and
experience in legal, government relations, or Indigenous engagement.
The board of directors is a governance board that meets 6 – 7 times a year with concurrent
committee work. Board members are expected to participate in at least one committee, come to
meetings prepared, engage productively in respectful discussion and decision-making, and
champion Lougheed House in the community. Board members are appointed for 3-year terms
and may serve for a maximum of 6 years.
The Lougheed House Conservation Society is committed to advancing equity, diversity, inclusion,
