Broken City Lab Artist Talk

The date for this event has passed.

During their WATERSHED+ Residency, artist collective Broken City Lab explored the importance of our city’s relationship to our rivers. What does it mean to have a connection with a body of water? How do we experience the river? What does the river mean to us?

These questions inspired Varying Proximities, a temporary installation of approximately 100 signs installed along the Bow and Elbow rivers. Each sign featured questions that encouraged citizens and visitors to think about the ways in which we collectively and individually experience the rivers and how these questions might cue new relations, memories and stories.

To conclude their residency, Broken City Lab invited citizens to share their own photos and stories reflecting their relationship with the river. A collection of submissions have been published in A Record of The Rivers.

Please join Broken City Lab members Hiba Abdallah and Justin Langlois for an artist talk about their experience working on the Varying Proximities project during their residency with The City of Calgary’s WATERSHED+ program, and the launch of A Record of the Rivers.

Date: Thursday, February 21, 2019, 7:00pm
