The Chinatown BIA, in partnership with the Sien Lok Park Society, is seeking up to two local artists to design and paint large Adirondack chairs that will be permanently installed in Sien Lok Park. This project aims to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Chinatown while engaging the community in a shared artistic experience.

aims to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Chinatown while engaging the community in a shared artistic experience.
Project Overview
One or two selected artists will transform giant Adirondack chairs into unique works of public art, inspired by themes of heritage, diversity, and community storytelling. In addition to painting the chairs, artists will also lead a community engagement session, where participants will paint mini Adirondack chairs while learning about Asian art and culture.
This project is subject to funding approval.
Eligibility
We invite local artists with experience in mural, public, or community-based art to apply. Artists from diverse backgrounds, including emerging artists, are encouraged to submit.
Artist Responsibilities
- Design and paint one large Adirondack chair
- Participate in a community engagement session
- Ensure the artwork is durable and weather-resistant
- Complete the painting between May and July 2025 (depending on
arrival of chairs)
Artist Fee
Each selected artist will receive an honorarium of $2,500 per chair, inclusive of time and labour. Additional materials costs and supplies should be outlined for the additional budget. Include paint and graffiti coating.

- Portfolio or examples of past work (up to 5 images)
- Brief proposal on how your art will reflect Chinatown’s culture and history (max 300 words)
