Call for Artist Mentors: Youth Third Culture Futures

The Fourth Space

Showcase date: April 19, 2025
Honorarium: All mentors will receive an honorarium for their time and participation of $2500

Are you an emerging or professional artist who is passionate about supporting immigrant and third-culture youth?

Third Culture Futures is a free interdisciplinary arts residency that brings together young people aged 14 – 18 from immigrant backgrounds to explore identity, culture, and creative expression. We are seeking artist mentors who can guide youth through their creative process, offer feedback and help shape the final showcase.

Program Highlights for Mentors

  • 1 – 2 Virtual Planning Meetings (January – February, 2026): Help shape the residency and meet the facilitator team.
  • 2-Night Retreat (March 25 – 27, 2026): Attend the two-night retreat and lead 1 workshops in your artist discipline. Mentors are welcome to stay overnight (preferred for continuity and informal connection with youth), or return home each night if needed.
  • Post-Retreat Support (March – April, 2026): Meet with your youth group 1 – 2 times to support the development of their final pieces.
  • Final Showcase (April 19, 2026): Attend the Calgary Public Library showcase to celebrate the youth’s work.

Who We’re Looking For

  • Emerging or professional artists from any discipline, though performing arts disciplines are preferred.
  • Passionate about mentorship, youth development, and culturally responsive practice
  • Comfortable supporting youth from immigrant, newcomer, or third-culture backgrounds
  • Facilitation experience is preferred — we value openness, care and creative guidance

Honorarium: All mentors will receive an honorarium for their time and participation of $2500.
