Collaborative Pianist Needed – Contract Position
Blend Vocal Association is seeking an energetic and talented musician to serve as our collaborative pianist. We are a dynamic, auditioned 12 – 16 voice adult treble choir focused on performing popular music. We have been thrilling Calgary audiences with our unique blend of pop, rock, country, jazz and contemporary a cappella since our establishment in 2011.
The successful candidate will be a collaborative musician who works well as part of a dynamic and energetic group. You will share Blend Vocal’s vision of creating accomplished, entertaining performances that are accessible to a wide audience.
Desirable Qualifications
- Minimum Grade 10 RCM piano, or equivalent (BMus is a strong asset)
- Experience in choirs, either as a singer or accompanist
- Experience working with a conductor and/or playing in an ensemble or band
- Excellent sight-reading and improvisation skills
Responsibilities
- Accompany and support weekly rehearsals, workshops and concerts.
- Collaborate with our Music Director, Rejean Campbell and share your musical expertise as we prepare for great performances.
- Lead a basic rehearsal in the event the Music Director is ill or absent.
Contract Commitment
Weekly Rehearsals: Thursdays, 6:45 – 9pm in SW Calgary. Rehearsals typically run from mid-September through early May.
Workshops: Four Saturday or Sunday workshops per year. Dates will be determined in advance.
Concerts: Two main concerts, one in December and one in May. Some concerts are accompanied by solo piano; for others, the Collaborative Pianist plays as part of a band.
Additional Performances: Additional guest performances are possible and are always planned in consultation with the accompanist.
