Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity aims to inspire all who attend its campus — artists, leaders and thinkers — to unleash their creative potential.

The Centre recognizes, with deep respect and gratitude, its home on the side of Sacred Buffalo Guardian Mountain. In the spirit of respect and truth, it honours and acknowledges the Banff area, known as “Minihrpa” (translated in Stoney Nakoda as “the waterfalls”) and the Treaty 7 territory and oral practices of the Îyârhe Nakoda (Stoney Nakoda)—comprised of the Bearspaw, Chiniki, and Goodstoney Nations—as well as the Tsuut’ina First Nation and the Blackfoot Confederacy comprised of the Siksika, Piikani, and Kainai. The Centre acknowledges that this territory is home to the Shuswap Nations, Ktunaxa Nations, and Metis Nation of Alberta, Rockyview District 4. It acknowledges all Nations who live, work, and play there, help steward the land, and honour and celebrate the place.

This is a term position, from November 19 to December 8, 2025.

The Opportunity

Banff Centre is looking for a Theatre Practitioner Level 3 – Hair and Makeup to work collaboratively and provide support for this fall’s Indigenous Fashion Runway Residency performances.

Specific Accountabilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Assist with hair and makeup for both live performance and video capture on site.
  • Assist with fitting hair pieces and wigs for cast members.
  • Assist with professional makeup application for performers.

Qualification and Educational Requirements

  • Theatre Practitioner Level 2: must have a minimum of three years’ experience as a working practitioner in their discipline within a theatre or performing arts production environment.
  • Theatre Practitioner Level 3: must have a minimum of five years’ experience as a working practitioner in their discipline within a theatre or performing arts production environment.
  • Completed a formal theatre education.
  • Possess a working knowledge of the theories and practices that support this discipline.
  • Have strong interpersonal skills and an ability to stay calm under pressure.
  • Able to work with tight, changing timelines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledgeable of related industry trends, including the application of up-to-date techniques, and use of special materials and current health and safety standards.
  • Able to apply professional theatre techniques and methods to provide the quality, efficiency and support level required by Performing Arts.

Special Requirements

Due to the nature of the job, this position requires the candidate to be available to work a flexible, irregular schedule and weekends.

Employment Terms & Benefits

In accordance with CUPE 4318, this is a unionized, hourly support staff position, subject to a 500-hour probationary period. Working up to 40 hours per week on a rotating schedule:

  • Theatre Practitioner Level 2: pays between $22.59 and $25.85 per hour.
  • Theatre Practitioner Level 3: pays between $27.17 and $31.51 per hour.
