Handmade Holiday Workshops

Alberta University of the Arts, School of Continuing Education has launched a series of “Handmade Holiday Workshops”. These are single-session classes where you gain access to our studio spaces, while working with a talented instructor who will guide you through making your own one-of-a-kind gift for the season. No previous experience required. Open to ages 17+.

Glass Ornaments
Looking for something extra special to give this holiday season? Make beautiful glass ornaments for your family and friends, and maybe one to keep! You will work with a partner and get lots of time working at the kiln to leave with a handful of ornaments as you take part in this amazing experience.
Note: Only natural fibre clothing (cotton), long pants and closed-toe shoes are allowed in the hot shop at all times.
Date: Saturday, November 29 or December 6
Time: 2 – 5pm
Cost: $150 + GST

Stuffed Embroidered Ornaments
Make some truly special ornaments to give as a gift or add to your collection of keepsake ornaments. You will learn some simple and not so simple embroidery stitches that you can include on your uniquely designed ornaments. Your instructor will work through ideas with you and provide assistance as needed.
Date: Saturday, December 6
Time: 9am – 3:30pm (time for lunch included)

Sew a Denim Bib Apron
Make a unique bib apron for someone special to wear in the kitchen, the studio, or at the grill on the deck. Your instructor will provide a pattern to follow that you can customize for your recipient’s needs, extra pockets, adjustable ties, ruffles. Discuss your ideas with your instructor and peers and receive support as needed.
