We are excited to announce that we are gearing up for our 26th annual Calgary International Film Festival, and are looking forward to welcoming new projectionists to our ranks! This year, we are introducing a new volunteer role of junior projectionist. Junior projectionists will be responsible for the smooth running of films and other on-screen content throughout the festival, and will be given honorariums as a thank you for this advanced volunteer role. More About the Role
Shift Responsibilities:
- Play on-screen content for the festival, including sponsor advertisements, shorts and films.
- Ensure correct aspect ratio and audio levels are set, based on film testing notes.
- Communicating with Screen Lead volunteers and front of house team to ensure timely and efficient execution of film schedule.
- Support in-person film introductions by running the spotlight from the projection booth.
- Ensure film playlist is correct and up-to-date, (e.g. that appropriate ads are played prior to film or short films are included), as dictated by senior projectionists.
- Perform minor troubleshooting on screening issues, while identifying and escalating any significant concerns to the senior projectionist on duty.
Qualifications and Assets:
- Outstanding collaborator and team player
- Strong computer skills, comfortable learning new programs
- Process oriented, with the ability to work independently
- Excellent communicator
- Ability to work calmly and excel under tight deadlines
- Knowledge of film and digital video formats and projection equipment
- Knowledge of live event sound/lighting
Approximate Hours:
- September 1 – 17, 2025: approximately seven (7) hours (to participate in training and onboarding)
- September 18 – 28, 2025: Festival, approximately 20 hours (min 16, max 26)
