Drawing Cultures is a workshop series hosted by a graduate student in the Department of Anthropology & Archaeology at the University of Calgary. This workshop series is funded by the Graduate Students’ Association Quality Money Program.

This workshop will allow participants to learn about cultural clothing practices from around the world and then learn how to draw them!

This workshop series requires four models from different ethnic or cultural groups to participate.

Models, wearing cultural apparel, will give a 10-15 minute talk about their culture and provide details about the clothing’s significance (time period, fabric, when it is worn, etc.). Feel free to bring non-weapon props.

For the remainder of the workshop, the model will pose for various time intervals (1 min/2 min/5 min/2min/5min/10 min/20min) to allow the workshop participants to draw them.

Tentative Dates:

  • Thursday, January 15, 2026
  • Thursday, February 12, 2026
  • Thursday, March 1, 2026

*Photography permissions are required as part of the Quality Money Grant requirements.
