What We’ll be Doing
Explore the meaning of Calgary as a “Blue Sky City” through storytelling and creativity in Poetry Under the Blue Sky: Exploring Calgary’s Potential Through Words and Vision. In this interactive session, you’ll reflect on what the Blue Sky City means to you, crafting poems and combining your words with visual collages. Together, we’ll explore themes of equity, belonging, and possibility, as shaped by your unique perspectives. Join us to connect, create, and contribute to a shared vision of Calgary’s future!
About the Artists
Gayathri Shukla (she/her) is an engineer turned entrepreneur. She founded Campfire Kinship, a social enterprise guiding teams in building inclusive cultures through story-based solutions. She is certified in guided autobiography, an innovative method that empowers individuals to share their authentic stories, while building a sense of belonging. In 2022, she published a bestselling anthology using this method, Landed, Transformative Stories of Canadian Immigrant Women. She also hosts UofC’s CJSW-hosted podcast Hearth 2 Heart. Gayathri is a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee medal in recognition of her community leadership.
Shannon Hutchison (she/her) believes that at our core, we want to be seen and understood. Through Beyond Our Image, she creates storytelling-driven visual campaigns and workshops that help people push past labels to places of connection. With 15 years of teaching experience across three countries and a career as a professional photographer, she’s seen firsthand how listening and curiosity break down barriers. Her Beyond the Label series, produced with the support of TELUS STORYHIVE, is available on Optik TV and the STORYHIVE YouTube page, bringing these conversations to life with allyship tools for real change.
