Representation and Promotion is part of the Arts Across Canada and Abroad program. It funds travel linked to promotion and the development of markets for Canadian artists and artistic works. Grants are available to registered or incorporated Canadian arts organizations to represent Canadian artists, develop their global presence, seek out new opportunities and establish a place for Canadian arts practice in the global arts market.  

Grants are also available to foreign arts organizations that invite Canadian artists to present artistic works and to Canadian arts organizations that bring international buyers to Canada.

Arts Across Canada and Abroad fosters meaningful relationships and exchanges between artists and the Canadian public, and celebrates the creativity, innovation and excellence of Canadian artists by helping to bring Canadian works to the world. Artists, arts professionals, groups and arts organizations can apply to present and share artistic work with diverse communities across the country and around the world.

Who Can Apply

Potential applicants:

  • Arts supporting groups
  • First Nations, Inuit or Métis groups or collectives
  • Supporting organizations
  • Presenting organizations
  • First Nations, Inuit or Métis not-for-profit organizations
  • Business cultural connectors
  • First Nations, Inuit or Métis for-profit organizations
  • Foreign arts festivals, biennales or book fairs

Organizations presently receiving core grants can apply. 

Eligible Activities

  • Formally representing and promoting artists and arts practices from Canada 
  • Researching artistic content to program for public presentation in Canada 
  • Bringing international buyers to Canada 
  • Leading a delegation from Canada abroad 

You can apply for one (1) or several destinations within one (1) trip and for multiple trips within one (1) application. 

Assessment Criteria

Your application will be internally assessed on the following weighted criteria, and must receive a minimum score in each category to be considered for a grant:

Relevance (weighting: 40%)

  • The rationale for the project, including timeliness suitability. /20
  • The suitability of the event or involvement of the partners or host organizations. /20

(minimum score required: 25/40)

Impact (weighting: 40%)

  • The potential of the project to develop and enhance the national or international profiles of the artists and/or arts practice being represented. /20
  • The potential of the project to generate future opportunities. /15
  • The potential of the project to build connections and exchange knowledge. /5

(minimum score required: 25/40)

Feasibility (weighting: 20%)

  • Your and your partners’ experience and capacity to undertake the project. /10
  • A reasonable budget that demonstrates fair payment to participants and efficient use of resources. /10

(minimum score required: 10/20)

Respectful and ethical cultural and artistic practices (RECAP) (your application must satisfy this criterion in order to receive funding)

  • Proper attention is paid to First Nations, Inuit or Métis cultural protocols, and cultural materials are treated in a respectful way. – OR – There is no Indigenous content in the activities.
