Seeking Board Members
Exposure Photography Festival
Letters of Interest: Due by July 8, 2025
The Exposure Photography Festival is looking for volunteers interested in joining our board of directors. As a board member you will play a vital role in leadership, governance and production of the festival.
As an active community member, you are eager to help build and expand Alberta’s dynamic photography festival. Successful board members are passionate about arts and culture, and the medium of photography; excited about festival planning and development; and, ideally, have expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Fundraising, community investment, sponsorship
- Finance/accounting pertaining to non-profits
- Grant writing and reporting
- Law pertaining to non-profits
- Volunteer recruitment/coordination
- Education and youth outreach
- Diversity outreach
- Community activation
Board Requirements
- A time commitment of up to 10 hours per month is expected, including attendance at monthly board meetings.
- Additional time is required to assist staff during the festival, from mid-January through the first week of March.
- Board members must act as a positive ambassador for the festival and its role in the community.
- Board members waive their right to participate in exhibition opportunities that are funded or curated by Exposure. They may still develop and register their own festival programming.
Board Responsibilities
Identity, Direction and Sustainability
- Help define the organization’s strategic direction.
- Help ensure that the organization’s mission, vision, and values are reflected in Exposure’s programs.
- Be active in fundraising efforts, from special events to sponsorship identification.
- Monitor the organization’s budgets and financial health.
- Assist in planning and execution of the festival.
Qualifications & Skills
- Understand the value of board governance and leadership to a growing non-profit organization.
- Be able to network, collaborate and engage with a variety of people and industries.
- Demonstrate drive and commitment to enhancing arts and culture.
- Help provide exceptional experiences to local artists, businesses, audiences and stakeholders.
- Previous board experience is considered an asset, but is not required.
Term Duration
Newly elected board members serve a one-year renewable term. Upon renewal, members’ terms are two (2) years.
