Tourism Information Officer
Museum of the Highwood
Pay: $19 per hour
Application deadline: May 11, 2026
Location: High River, AB
Located in a 114-year-old CPR railway station, the Museum of the Highwood and Visitor Information Centre is a charity located in High River, Alberta. We are responsible for the stewardship of artifacts, documents, photographs and any other archival material that is related to High River and the Highwood region. The Museum also plays host to the Visitor Information Centre for the Town of High River, which operates year-round, seven days a week. In 2025 we served over 17,000 visitors from across Canada and around the world.
The Museum of the Highwood is seeking two (2) tourism information officers for a period of eight weeks, full-time, at an hourly rate of $19 per hour. This position is partially funded by the government of Canada through the Canada Summer Jobs Program.
As tourism information officer, the chosen applicants will welcome guests to the Museum, and it will be their responsibility to provide a positive experience to all visitors, by giving accurate and up-to-date tourism information on High River and the surrounding area.
Eligibility:
This position is open to applicants between the ages of 15 and 30. Eligible applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the job. The applicant may be 31 years old by the end of the job, so long as they were 30 when the job began.
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations. This includes having a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of their summer job.
- International students are not eligible participants. As the objective of the CSJ program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour market, the temporary nature of an international student’s time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labour market. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.
- Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible.
