A practice and performance.
kloetzel&co. is offering a free workshop on the VINES methodology for all movers on May 10, 1 – 4 pm, UCalgary Aux Gym.
VINES is an ecosomatic and site-adaptive practice developed by Melanie Kloetzel (kloetzel&co.). Using state-based, improvisational and durational approaches, VINES helps viewers and participants alike consider what it might mean to respectfully learn from and identify with plants as kinship species. Stemming from research on the movement patterns of climbing plants and deeply informed by Indigenous concepts of relationality, VINES investigates the translation of plant-based movement language into the human body to encourage empathetic connections to our more-than-human kin.
Following the workshop, select participants will be invited to join two additional rehearsals on May 24 & 31 for a special VINES performance on June 1, 5 – 7 pm for Calgary Climate Week. This is a paid opportunity for professional performance artists. If interested in this opportunity, please indicate your interest when you register.
