Archived July 5, 2022 1000 MONKEYS Project Alberta Playwright’s Network is proud to be partnering with YYC Fringe to announce the second year of the 1000 Monkeys Project. If you give a 1000 monkeys 1000 typewriters, eventually they’ll write Hamlet. APN is looking for eight intrepid playwrights to join us for 24 consecutive hours to write the next great Canadian play. You can write anything that you want. At the end of the process the scripts will be given staged readings as part of the Calgary Fringe Festival. The 24-hour writing event will take place from Sunday, July 31, 2022 at 12:00pm and finish on Monday, August 1, 2022 at 12:oopm. The reading presentations will take place on Monday, August 1, 2022, at 5:45pm and 7:45pm. We are planning this for an in-person gathering to take place at Festival Hall in Calgary. The participants would be asked to gather at this space to write, share and hang out. This will be a volunteered event. Participants will be fed, watered, caffeinated, and supported as they write. Also all participants will receive a certificate for an ACT ONE service (one-on-one dramaturgy) which you can use for a draft of the play you’ve created or any other project you desire. If you are an emerging playwright, established, or have always wanted to try your hand, we want you! To submit please email Conrad Belau at firstname.lastname@example.org with a brief letter introducing yourself and your work. Deadline to submit: July 24, 2022 For more information visit albertaplaywrights.com.
