2018 MOVEMENT

Call for Ideas

The submission deadline for this opportunity has passed.

Seeking to explore new approaches to movement in Calgary, Design Talks Institute and The City of Calgary launch the 2018 MOVEMENT call for ideas. Using the new Green Line Light Rail Transit (LRT) project as a platform for new, provocative ideas, MOVEMENT is an open call to architects, artists, designers, engineers, planners and students, to rethink the present and future of transportation in Calgary.

The jury is comprised of architect, editor and curator Giovanna Borasi (Canadian Centre for Architecture); urban issues writer, Amanda Hurley (CityLab); retired City of Calgary transportation planning director, Don Mulligan; design accessibility/inclusivity advocate, Nabeel Ramji (Bricolage Calgary); architect and educator, Brigitte Shim (Shim-Sutcliffe Architects); filmmaker and artistic director, Cowboy Smithx (REDx talks, Noirfoot Narrative Labs, and Iniisti: Treaty Arts Society); and transportation design and policy expert, Shin-pei Tsay (Gehl Institute).

With awards totalling over $15,000 CAD, including a top prize and seven category awards, this call for ideas seeks multi-disciplinary approaches to the challenge of urban movement.

A series of engagement initiatives over the course of 2019 will be developed from this call, including public discussions, exhibitions and the publishing of the winning ideas online and in print.

Individuals and teams may register for the call and submit an idea before November 18, 2018.

Free registration ends on September 30, 2018.
