General Auditions

Theatre Calgary, Vertigo Theatre, Alberta Theatre Projects, Lunchbox Theatre, and The Shakespeare Company will be holding joint general auditions on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, and Thursday, September 9, 2021, in Calgary.

In attendance will be Stafford Arima (Theatre Calgary), Craig Hall (Vertigo Theatre), Haysam Kadri (Alberta Theatre Projects/The Shakespeare Company), and Bronwyn Steinberg (Lunchbox Theatre).

Alberta-based artists are invited to submit their headshots and resumes for general audition consideration. Artists must be at least 18 years old at the time of the audition.

Theatre Calgary, Vertigo Theatre, Lunchbox Theatre, Alberta Theatre Projects, and The Shakespeare Company, all believe in a work environment free of discrimination and harassment. We are committed to reflecting the diversity of our community and we believe in equity and inclusion and strongly encourage submissions from all qualified individuals regardless of gender, age, or race. We also encourage artists who identify as LGBTQ2S+, disabled/people with disabilities, and/or neurodiverse to submit.

*If there are any potential barriers (language, disability, or any other considerations) preventing you from applying to audition, please let us know and we will work with you to overcome them.

To Prepare

Please prepare two contrasting monologues or one monologue and one song totaling no more than four minutes. If you are doing a song, please bring your own playback device and speaker as there will not be access to a sound system (due to COVID protocols).

How to Submit

Please email your headshot and resume to auditions@theatrecalgary.com with GENERAL AUDITION SUBMISSION in the subject line.

  • Headshots need to be JPG/JPEG/PDF files titled “Your Name Headshot” (eg: Susan McNair Reid Headshot.jpeg) and be no larger than 2MB.
  • Resumes need to be PDF files titled “Your Name Resume” (eg: “Susan McNair Reid Resume.pdf”). You may combine your headshot and resume into one PDF if preferred.
  • *We will not be collecting hard copies of headshots and resumes at the audition. The audition panel will receive them all electronically which is why they need to have your name in the name of the file and the files can’t be too large. *Headshots do not need to be from a professional photographer but must be a clear photo of you.

COVID-19 Protocols

Masks will be required of all artists and physical distancing will be maintained throughout the audition. There will not be any shared equipment or objects. If a chair is used during an audition, it will be disinfected prior to the next artist.

All submissions must be received by end of day Thursday, September 2, 2021.

Only successful applicants will be contacted by end of day Friday September 3, 2021.

If you have any questions about what you need to prepare, please email smcnairreid@theatrecalgary.com. We will not be accepting video submissions for these auditions and we will NOT have any virtual slots available.

Artists who are members of the Canadian Actors Equity Association will be given audition priority. Non-Equity artists will be seen when and if spaces are available.
