The event services team encompasses the entire front of house operation at Arts Commons and is comprised of ushers, ticket takers, coat check attendants, bartenders, and more. Reporting to the front of house manager on shift, team members are the front line of Arts Commons and are committed to enriching the experiences for all of Arts Commons’ patrons and visitors. About Arts Commons Arts Commons is a key contributor to the social, economic, cultural and intellectual life and well-being of the citizens of Calgary and is one of Canada’s largest and most vibrant arts centres. Located in the heart of Calgary’s cultural district in the downtown core, the centre occupies a full city block and is home to five theatres and the world-class Jack Singer Concert Hall. Each year, the centre hosts over 1,800 performances and events, including live theatre, concerts, dance productions, readings, public forums, art exhibits, and much more. The resident companies of Arts Commons including Alberta Theatre Projects, Arts Commons Presents, the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Downstage, One Yellow Rabbit, and Theatre Calgary create, perform, and present a wide range of award-winning and highly acclaimed theatre and concerts each season. Arts Commons also houses rehearsal spaces, a costume and set construction shop, administrative offices, meeting rooms, a cafe, and the centralized Arts Commons box office. Key Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to): Welcoming the public into our venues and setting them up for a great evening. Providing clear, concise and friendly directions to seats, venues, parking and amenities. Organizing and distributing programs to the public. Selling of merchandise, beverages, confection and balancing cash. Taking tickets and ensuring accurate house counts while controlling access into the venue. Requirements Applicants should have a high concentration of customer service experience, superior communications skills with fluency in the English language. Other desired skills and qualifications include: Flexibility and the ability to work during peak times. Professional appearance and demeanour. Strong attention to detail. First Aid Certification, bartending experience and Alberta ProServe Certification are assets. A passion for the arts! The hours of work are part-time and largely consist of evenings and weekends with a small number of daytime corporate events, late afternoon/early evening receptions. The length and number of shifts are subject to change and are based on the schedule of events. Preference is given to those with the greatest availability.
