Afro Urban Dance Workshops

Vol 4: Ndombolo & Steppin

Join us for our fourth installment of our workshop series highlighting modern dance styles from Africa and the Afro-Diaspora!

Ndombolo with Nyasha Nyamaka

Focusing on vocabulary, drills & choreography, Nyasha will be teaching some of the moves & grooves associated with the Congolese genre of music & dance known as Ndombolo. This style incorporates a lot of waist movements and full body grooves.

Stepping with Nelson Arsenault

Nelson will be taking us through the movement and culture of the art form of step dancing. Taking inspiration from African folk & African American traditions & popular culture, this high energy class will involve poly-rhythmic body percussion, vocalizations and group coordination.

We are excited to present these two styles to you and can’t wait for you to join us!

Workshop Times:

  • Ndombolo: 3:00 – 4:30pm
  • Stepping: 4:30 – 6:00pm

  • One Class (Either Ndombolo or Stepping): $15
  • Two Class Combo: $30

Note: Early bird ticket sales end on March 24, 2019, 12:00 MST.

Regular:

  • One Workshop: $20
  • Both Workshops: $35

All ticket sales are online and will end at 2:00pm (an hour before the workshop) on April 13, 2019. As there are a limited number of tickets, please purchase your ticket ahead of time in order to make sure that your spot in the workshop is secured.

Location

Both of the workshops will be held at the Gray Family Eau Claire YMCA in the West Studio on the 3rd floor. Please bring some ID so the YMCA staff can let you upstairs.
