On Sound Media Arts Conference

The date of this event has passed.

AMAAS (Alberta Media Arts Alliance Society) hosts a conference every two years bringing together 60 to 70 media artists, members and member organizations as a partial retreat, professional development and opportunity for learning and renewing energies.

We present artist talks, art installations, performances and receptions as well as workshops and discussions. There will be plenty of time for networking and connecting with media artists from around the province.

It is our goal to bring awareness of media art to each of the town centres we visit during a conference. This year our On Sound Media Arts Conference will take place in and around Beautiful Nanton, Alberta, a 45-minute drive south of Calgary and on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy comprising of the Siksika, Piikani, and Kainai First Nations.

The conference includes two full days of programming at the Coutts Centre for Western Canadian Heritage as well as various venues in Nanton and will have Artists-in-Residence at The Bomber Command Museum, The Grain Elevator Museum and The Auditorium Hotel.

Programming starts in the evening of Thursday, June 6, 2019, and ends after lunch on Sunday, June 9, 2019.

Confirmed artists and speakers to date include: Matthew Cardinal, Janet Rogers, Article 11 (Andy Moro & Tara Beagan), Curtis Running Rabbit-Lefthand, Gary James Joynes, Heather Kai Smith, Kristen Hutchinson, Lindsay Sorell, Mary Kavanagh, Rachel Soong, Raylene Campbell, Richelle Bear Hat, Shawn Pinchbeck, Terrance Houle, Alex Moon, with more to come!

The registration fee is $75 per person which includes 9 full meals, professional development workshops, performances, events, screenings and receptions over 2 and ½ days and 3 evenings. Registration is open primarily to media artists and media arts organizations and welcomes visual and performing artists as well as members of the public and guests.

After May 1, 2019, registration fee doubles to $150 so sign up now.

The public is welcome to evening events with a $20 entrance fee.
