Archived June 7, 2019 Call to Artists Creation & Development of New Early Years Performance The submission deadline for this opportunity has passed. Seeking applications from artists interested in working on a new show for an early years audience. The project will set out to bring together a musician, visual artist, environment/set-designer along with three performing artists to lay the blueprint of an original performance conceived by Jenny Repond Peters. At the end of the project, the goal will be to compile a complete show production concept, with elements built for exploration, some original music composition, and three to four performed scenes, which will be performed to a public audience under a workshop format. Candidates Should Have: Experience and passion for working in the theatre for young audiences genre specifically with an interest in relaxed performances for kids under six years of age. Previous experience working in arts education and or early education. A personal artistic practice as a musician, visual artist, technical production, set-design, multi-disciplinary performance, dancer, or physical theatre/circus artist (not limited to these specializations). Important Dates: Application/resume submissions are due June 14, 2019. Auditions/interviews June 21, 2019 at Arts Commons—must apply via form by visiting tfaforms.com. End of June: A project kick-off meeting/team meeting. July 25 – 28, 2019 (evenings and weekends): Creation and development with designers, composer & director/creator August 1 – 5, 2019 (evenings and weekends): Performance exploration/studio workshop with performing artists August 17 & 18, 2019 (final weekend): Final photos, video, and public showcase at cSPACE for the invited audience Candidates applying should have availability evenings and weekends throughout late July and August. The time commitment will include approx. 30 to 45 hours for artists working on composition, visual arts and design (not including individual build time/prep), and 15 to 20 hours for performing artists. Range of compensation is $22 to $25/hr for performing artists. Fixed fee contract of approx. $1,500 to $1,800 for design, visual arts, composition and production team. She is the founder/director of Bach Tots: Performing Arts for Babies, Toddler and Young Children which has performed work both nationally at the Calgary and Saskatoon Children’s Festivals and internationally at the Spring of Culture Festival in Bahrain. Outside of Bach Tots she has worked with Evergreen Theatre, Trickster Theatre, Ghost River Theatre, One Yellow Rabbit, and the University of Calgary. She has been involved in dance and theatre as a creator, director, and performer for over 20 years, project managed hundreds of cultural projects and is the current program manager for education at Arts Commons, which includes the creative direction for Itty Bitty Arts Days.
