Artist in Residence

Applications are now being accepted for an artist-in-residence to create and implement an art installation this winter at TELUS Spark, also known as the Calgary Science Centre.

Residency Period

The residency can commence between December 2019 and the artwork must be in place by March 31, 2020. Spark will be used as the main place of work for a minimum of 20 days over a period of up to four months.

The successful artist or artist collective will be invited to spend time working at Spark and will be responsible for their own hours of work. Spark is typically open between 9:00am and 4:00pm. After-hours access to the facility will be available with prior approval.

Budget

  • A total of approximately $15,000 CAD is available for each residency.
  • A stipend of $10,500 CAD will be paid for 20 days of on-site preparation, research, workshop(s) and production. (Note it may take more than 20 full time working days, however extra stipend will not be provided.)
  • A stipend of $3,000 CAD will be paid for exhibiting the artwork up to one year after production.

A material budget is available. Please provide an outline of a proposed budget. At Spark, you will have access to a full woodworking workshop, welding, metalworking, electronics, CNC, and laser cutter.
