Artist Mentees Wanted

Are you a Calgary-based visual artist interested in expanding your practice into public art? If so, here’s your chance to be mentored by artists Gabriel Specter and Dan Bergeron while they work on a series of murals near the Sunnyside Skate Spot in Calgary’s Hillhurst-Sunnyside neighbourhood.

The project will take place in late September 2022 and require mentees to be available for two full days of work. Mentees will assist the artists in the creation of two murals that will be painted on LRT fencing adjacent to a pedestrian path running between the Sunnyside Skate Spot and Sunnyside LRT Station.

Mentees will work alongside Dan and Gabriel in the creation of the works, and Dan and Gabriel will provide hands-on instruction so that the mentees come away from the experience with a full understanding of how to accomplish a similar installation on their own.

Mentees will be paid $25/hour for their time and food will be provided while working on site.

To apply, please submit the following:

  • Contact information: name, address, mobile number, e-mail address, Instagram, website (if applicable).
  • CV (no more than three pages).
  • Three to five images of previously completed works (must be visual artwork).
  • 250 words max describing your practice and why you are interested in this opportunity.

Please combine all of the requested items above into one PDF and e-mail it to: fauxreel@fauxreel.ca.

Deadline for submissions is Saturday, September 17, 2022.
