We are seeking an enthusiastic team player to fill the seasonal contract position of Programming Assistant. The primary function of the Programming Assistant is to support the Producing & Engagement Associate and the Visual & Media Arts Associate in our programming team (also known as Arts Commons Presents).

Duties will include programming and community event planning and coordination, visual arts installations and support, and general administrative support. This role is ideal for emerging arts administrators with a keen interest in inter-disciplinary arts practise. Candidates must be well organized, eager to learn and some experience in the arts sector and administrative aptitude is required.

Primary Responsibilities

Event Coordinating Assistance:

  • Assist with the planning and execution of community arts partner events, artist receptions, artist professional development events, special projects and productions.

Administrative Assistance:

  • General departmental assistance with artist and event agreements, details and information gathering, reporting and data consolidation.
  • Assist with the documentation of Visual and Media Arts exhibitions and community projects.

The Programming Assistant is a seasonal member of the Programming team and will play an integral role in helping achieve Arts Commons’ organizational goals. This work schedule is determined according to key event dates and required availability.

Experience

Applicants must have one to two years of experience in an arts and culture related position. Experience planning events, production or producing is preferred. Experience in multi-disciplinary arts or visual arts is an asset.

  • Ability to work evening and weekends.
  • Good understanding of the arts sector and local arts scene.

This part-time position is a flexible 15 hour work week, with event-based evening and weekend work. The contract is 24 weeks in total or 360 hours, beginning mid-January 2019 until end June 2019.

Where weeks may require more than 15 hours, other weeks will be reduced accordingly.

Compensation: $22/hour
