Registration is now open for Artstrek 2018, Theatre Alberta’s summer theatre school for teens. This year Artstrek will return to the state-of-the-art facilities at Red Deer College. Participants will spend one week in July working with a team of professional artists and educators from across the province to explore the creative possibilities of theatre. They’ll go beyond rehearsing lines and blocking scenes and investigate every element of theatre production including acting, voice, movement, directing and design. Every year a different play of study is selected as the vehicle that will take students on their creative journey. For Artstrek 2018 it will be Shakespeare’s towering tragedy, Macbeth. This powerful drama, truly a toxic love story between the covetous Thane of Cawdor and the unforgettable Lady Macbeth, swirls like a Scottish fog with themes of ambition, power, and fate. It is an excellent portal through which participants can enter the world of the dramatic arts. The dates for this year’s program are as follows: Exploration I: 13 & 14 years old, Sunday – Friday, July 8 – 13, 2018 Exploration II: 15 & 16 years old, Sunday – Friday, July 15 – 20, 2018 Exploration III: 17 & 18 years old, Sunday – Saturday, July 22 – 28, 2018 To learn more about Artstrek 2018 please visit theatrealberta.com/artstrek.
