Student Writers Group

The Alberta Theatre Projects’ Student Writers Group is a unique opportunity for high school students to explore the craft of playwriting with professional playwrights and guest artists from across Canada.

During this course (November 2021 through May 2022), students meet weekly with our playwright mentor to cultivate their playwriting skills, have conversations with guest artists (which include members of our Playwrights Unit and current season artists), and build social connections with their peers.

The students in the ATP Student Writers Group will be entitled to invitations to all of our performance in the 2021/22 season.

The program culminates in each of the students developing an original 10-minute play. Toward the completion of the program each student will be paired with professional director/dramaturg. They will participate in a dramaturgical mentorship session, followed by a workshop led by their director/dramaturg and some of Calgary’s finest actors. This process concludes in an annual online showcase of the students’ work in a professional online public staged reading produced by ATP and performed by some of Calgary’s beloved artists.
