The Alberta University of the Arts (AUArts) is looking for a creative, resourceful and innovative casual audio visual assistant to support the computing & technical services team at the university.

This is a casual position commencing as soon as possible until May 31, 2023. Hours of work will be approximately 14-28 hours per week.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the director, computing & technical services and accountable to the audio visual resources lead, the audio visual assistant (AV assistant) operates photographic, audio and video equipment in support of various university instructional, administrative and special events. This role provides technical assistance to students, staff and faculty with respect to equipment operation and care, and the operation of photographic, audio and video equipment, supplies and facilities. The AV assistant also assists with performing preventative maintenance and minor repairs on audiovisual equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assists with the operation of audiovisual, photographic, audio and video equipment in support of regular instruction, guest artist/designer/lecturers, administrative and special events purposes throughout the university.
  • Performs media capture and conversion for alternative distribution methods.
  • Assists with the reservation and distribution system for provision of audiovisual equipment and supplies for instructional, administrative and special events purposes.
  • Operates the scheduling system for audiovisual facilities and studios to meet instructional and student needs, inclusive of four video editing suites, an audio suite, a computer workstation, an inter-format video transfer station and a photographic studio.
  • Provides technical education assistance for students, staff and faculty with respect to equipment operation and care; and the operation of audiovisual, photographic, audio and video equipment; monitors audio-visual production facilities while in use.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Minimum Grade 12 education.
  • Demonstrated experience with audio visual equipment, preferably within a post-secondary environment.
  • Working knowledge and experience in New-Media Arts, audio, video and photography is preferred.
  • Demonstrated organization and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and effectively in cooperation with faculty and students in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills.

As a member of the AUPE bargaining unit (Local 071/006), this casual position pays an hourly rate of $17.51 and dues will be collected at a rate of 1.25% per pay. As this position is casual in nature, there will be no guarantee of hours or a regular schedule.
