The date for this opportunity has passed.

Fire Exit Theatre is seeking actors for its May 2019 production of Sacrament.

World premiere of the 2017 winner Scripts on Fire New Play Competition, directed by Val Lieske and written by Gilbert da Silva.

Synopsis

In the heart of a city gripped by a deadly epidemic, Father Caleb opens his church to offer people hope. But soon the people taking Mass no longer suffer sickness. When a leading scientist comes to investigate the miracle, an unexpected reunion turns into a showdown between divergent worldviews fighting for the future of humanity. Is the cure the wine, or in the faith of the people? A gripping illustration of a complex but whole-hearted search for healing.

Schedule

Rehearsals will begin late February and take place on evenings and weekends. Tech rehearsals are May 5 to 7, 2019 with performances running from May 8 to 12, 2019.

How to Prepare

Please prepare a contemporary monologue of one minute in length. The monologue may comic or dramatic, and should be something that you are emotionally connected to rather than a “good character monologue.” Pick something that resembles you at your most truthful. Actors will also be sent aside from the play.

Auditions will take place at Renfrew Baptist Church (1204 Renfrew Dr. NW) on Saturday, January 26, 2019, from 1:30 to 6:30pm.

Please schedule an audition time by emailing Val Lieske at val@fireexit.ca. Further auditions and callbacks will be scheduled as necessary.

We will be Auditioning for the Following Roles

Caleb: (Male, mid 30’s to mid-40’s) Parish priest. True believer. Kind-hearted and willing to risk personal safety and personal happiness in service to others. A good debate is not lost on him. Willing to count the cost to stand for what he believes in.

Laynie: (Female, mid 30’s – mid 40’s) Scientist. Atheist. Matter of fact and never afraid to speak her mind. When she believes she is right she will stop at nothing to convince people of her position. She is driven, but it is because she is about the “greater good.” Much to her dismay, her anger can get the best of her.

Fire Exit Theatre is a non-equity semi-professional theatre company. Actor honorariums are paid.
