Banff International Literary Translation Centre

The Banff International Literary Translation Centre (BILTC) offers student and emerging literary translators two weeks of mentorship on a current project. Working in a trilingual environment, participants will have the opportunity to work with a faculty of accomplished translators, as well as consult peers; resulting in a mutually beneficial learning experience.

Translation projects between French, English, and Spanish are welcome.

What Does the Program Offer?

This 14-day online residency provides teaching from faculty members, Q&A sessions, and one-on-one workshopping. Instructors will discuss ideas, experiences, and obstacles that participants may be encountering with their translation projects.

Who Should Apply?

BILTC 2021 welcomes applications from student and emerging translators.

Translators seeking time to focus on a current literary translation project and an opportunity to connect with literary translators from around the world will benefit greatly from this program.

Eligible projects include translations of works of fiction, literary non-fiction, poetry, children’s literature, oral tradition, and drama between English, French, and Spanish.

Please Note: The language of administration at Banff Centre is in English. All administrative correspondence related to this program, after adjudication, and while the program is running will be in English.

We welcome translators from all backgrounds, and all gender identities and expressions.

Full scholarship to cover tuition fees will be granted to all successful applicants.

Note: Past participants of BILTC are not eligible for the 2021 residency. Participants in this year’s program will be eligible for future years if they choose to apply again.
