Bartender Supervisors

The Calgary International Film Festival’s mission is to entertain and engage audiences by curating the most innovative and compelling films and creating remarkable festival experiences.

The festival is a 12-day showcase of up to 200 multi-genre films from Canada and over 40 other countries, hosting gala events, screenings, award ceremonies and special presentations. Additionally, the festival co-presents other programs, such as Doc Soup, throughout the year.

Role

Bartender Supervisors are tasked with the management of our volunteer bartender crews, ensuring outstanding customer service and secure handling of cash and alcohol.

Responsibilities include:

  • Be knowledgeable about the festival’s programming, special events, and venues.
  • Be aware of and ensure adherence to all festival and AGLC guidelines in regards to liquor sales and consumption.
  • Train volunteer bartenders according to festival and AGLC policies.
  • Ensure all volunteers have valid ProServe proof of certification documentation on hand.
  • Ensure volunteer bartenders have arrived on time, and acquaint them with the bar area.
  • Assist volunteer bartender with setting up the bar area with appropriate inventory, including ice, and setting drinks to chill ahead of sales time.
  • Be on hand to assist bartenders in case of a sales rush.
  • Keep the bar area clean and well organized.
  • Provide friendly, helpful and prompt customer service.
  • Ensure volunteer bartenders are following inventory count protocol, flagging any inconsistencies with the Operations Manager.
  • Alert the Operations Manager prior to inventory getting low so that re-orders can be made in a reasonable time.
  • Ensure the security of all bar cash and product.
  • Supervise an accurate cash-in and cash-out process with each volunteer, and submit to the Operations Manager for review.
  • Count and maintain a float; request float reset(s) daily, or as needed, to the Operations Manager.
  • Answer questions from customers and resolve any bar-related concerns.
  • Forward any questions or concerns outside of your scope to the appropriate member of staff.

Qualifications:

  • Outstanding collaborator and ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Strong verbal communication skills, including comfortable communication with customers, supervisors, peers, sponsors, VIPs, etc.
  • Valid ProServe status—proof required upon hiring.
  • Knowledge of AGLC rules and requirements.
  • Experience with frontline cash sales.
  • Experience in a managerial role.
  • Exceptional math and cash handling skills.
  • Strong sense of professionalism and attention to detail.
  • Excellent reasoning, decision making and problem-solving.
  • Reliable, hardworking and resourceful.
  • Availability to work daytimes, evenings and weekends.
  • Handle challenging situations with aplomb and grace.
  • First Aid training is an asset.

Employment Type: Fixed Term Contract

Start Date: Starts September 1, 2018, ends October 15, 2018

Hours: Varying throughout the contract. An estimated average of 8 hours per week during the first half of September; and full time and above during the festival (September 19 to 30, 2018), which includes long days, evenings and weekends on-site; concluding with 4 hours per week in October. Involves evenings and weekends, especially during the festival.

Required availability: Tuesday, September 4, 2018, 9:30am to 1:30pm, and Wednesday, September 12, 2018, 9:30am to 1:30pm

Salary/Fee: $1,920 flat for the contract
