The Beltline Neighbourhoods Association is a grassroots organization founded by engaged residents with a history of service in their communities who wanted to build an accessible and diverse association open to all residents to get involved in making the Beltline an even better place.

With nearly 25,000 people living in the Beltline the BNA has had limited means to connect with the many members of underrepresented communities that live here including but not limited to seniors, indigenous youth, LGBTQ, people with disabilities and new Canadians. The BNA strives to connect with more and more residents to work together to make the our neighbourhoods more inclusive.

In an effort to connect and involve more members of our neighbourhoods, the Community Outreach Coordinator will help to grow the BNA’s membership and contact lists within our neighbourhoods by various means including door knocking, canvassing, street activations, activations at BNA events, including but not limited to Neighbour Day and the BUMP Festival.

Candidates will be creative, energetic and outgoing with strong communications skills and a passion for community building.

Outcomes for youth include gaining experience in community building and connecting with members of underrepresented communities that live in the Beltline as part of a team of staff and volunteers that are working together to make the Beltline neighbourhoods a more inclusive place to live.

Period: 14 weeks (May 27 – Aug 31, 2019)
Pay: $15/hour
Hours per Week: 37.5

Activities:

  • Assist Director of Social Affairs with door knocking strategy to survey residents of the Beltline.
  • Host coffee tables with local business partners in the Beltline for drop-in community sessions.
  • Coordinate open houses at community hub including tours, entertainment and presentations.
  • Collect responses and interpret data for sound recommendations on BNA engagement strategy.
  • Help Community Engagement team coordinate pre- and post-event communications, including invitations, confirmations, and thank you notes.
  • Represent the BNA at community events and meetings.
  • Take on ad-hoc projects on an as-needed basis.

Qualifications:

  • Extremely strong writing and communication skills.
  • Outgoing with exceptional people skills and a high level of empathy.
  • Well-rounded and able to talk about a wide range of topics with ease.
  • Highly organized and attentive to detail.
  • Able to work 1 night per week as needed (events).
  • Ability to use Google Suite (Google Docs, Sheets, etc.).

Who can Apply

To be eligible, youth must:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment.
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment (international students are not eligible).
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
